Light Requirements

Prefers fertile, well-draining soil rich in compost or organic matter.

Watering

Water deeply at the base of the plant to keep soil evenly moist.

Avoid wetting leaves to reduce mildew risk.

Temperature

Thrives in warm weather and does not tolerate frost.

Ideal growing temperatures:

Planting Instructions

Starting Seeds Outdoors

Sow directly after danger of frost has passed and soil has warmed.

  • Plant seeds 1 inch deep
  • Space hills 3–4 feet apart
  • Place 2–3 seeds per hill
  • Thin to strongest seedling after sprouting

Starting Indoors

Can be started indoors 2–3 weeks before transplanting.
